Our skin is a living organ so it breathes constantly to retain its smoothness and freshness. As a lively organ it will produce oil and remove dead cells in an even manner. Whenever this process becomes uneven, there come acnes. As this is not an age oriented one, it can affect people ranging from teenagers in the age group of 10 to 12 to adults. Common factors that contribute to acne formation are hormones and heredity.

The sebaceous glands are the major culprits of acne diseases. Sebum secreted by sebaceous glands is responsible for retaining the oiliness of the skin and hair. It keeps the skin vigorous and glowing. The gland will be inactive in infancy. When the body begins to produce hormones called androgens, sebaceous glands will enlarge and become active. This occurs during the puberty stage that is when we become a teenager. As the activity of the sebaceous gland is genetically planned, the person who has a more active production of sebum is more prone to acne.

How excess oil secretion appears as a blemish or as a pimple on your face? The one you see on your face as a mark is the final stage of a two to three week long process. The process starts from the tiny pores of your sebaceous hair follicle. Under normal conditions the sebaceous gland produces sebum in the root of hair follicles, while skin shed dead follicles to make room for fresh new skin. This bogging process depends on the type of skin's texture and quality. In some people dead skin removal will be an even process, while in some it goes unevenly. Due to uneven shedding, the dead cells become sticky and it accumulates together to form a plug. So, while your skin continues its normal oil production the plug trap the oil and the bacteria inside the follicle. Thus the pug swells and later develops into a gruesome pimple. Some of the common types of acnes are blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, black acne and acne conglobata.

For teenagers acne will turn into a psychological problem rather than a physical problem. As they give more importance to outward appearance during that stage mild acne can give a big impact on their pride and self-confidence. When they lose self-confidence there develop feelings like self hatred and negative self image. That ugly and self conscious feeling makes them to withdraw from others and feel angry at times. Later there comes a stage where they feel like down and despondent and this leads to depression and even to suicide attempts.

Nowadays a lot of treatment options are available for acne. But just like the old saying, prevention is better than cure. We can take our own efforts to prevent acne formation. Just think about the three main causes that trigger acne formations. They are development of pores, excess oil formation and growth of bacteria. Now think about how to control these formations. We can control this disease even by regularizing and moderating our lifestyle. If we drink eight glasses of water per day, eat good food for three times a day and get a proper sleep, then we can control acne formation to a certain extent. Moreover, we have to wash our face at regular intervals and use sunscreens while going out and have to avoid over makeup. It's the frantic and unpredictable daily routines that help acnes to thrive well on your body.
